ALBUM REVIEW: A LA SALA - kHRUANGBIN.

Looking at their journey from 2014 to their latest album released this year, this diverse trio have become a worldwide sensation, covering genres from psychedelia to soul and funk. Their most recent album ‘A La Sala’, meaning ‘To the room’, is effortlessly cool and uses a range of their classic bass, riffs and subtle but effective drum beats we all love. For this album, Khruangbin have joined together and each member has brought innovation from where they started, their homes.

The differences in their albums show us how much the way they create music has shifted and how the changes to each album have adapted throughout their musical careers. Throughout the journey that we have been on with them, Khruangbin have incorporated different genres as well subtly introducing the smooth vocals of Laura Lee from time to time.

Each song in the album offers something deliciously different, enabling each listener to separate specific moments to hear and enjoy. One particular calming and refreshing song is ‘Pon Pon’. With its upbeat riffs and yet dreamy soft tones, I imagine listening to this whilst walking along a street in the early morning watching the sunrise, or whilst lying on a beach enjoying every second lazing in the sun. We as listeners are able to enjoy each song in any mood as the bands ability to reach out and engage with their listeners emotions is equally as favourable to us but also genius.

‘May Ninth’ embodies everything that I admire about Khruangbins way of making the listener feel a certain type of way. Every time that I listen to this song, I want to believe that we are all instantly transported to a tranquil and reflective environment. Khruangbin have always managed to lift the spirits of individuals as well as allowing them to interpret their songs in a way they like. This is exactly what this new album achieves.
